Netflix Plans

Netflix announced recently there would be Netflix plans on their unlimited monthly rentals, with prices increasing roughly $1 to $3 on most plans. Nobody's going to want to hear about prices increases, but Netflix remains an affordable movie rental option.

Since most Netflix users have their credit cards billed automatically every month, you might not even know about the Netflix prices increases, if you delete most of your Netflix emails. So I've provided a complete breakdown of the new Netflix pricing.

On January 11, 2011, the new Netflix rental plans will change to the following.

The $4.99 Pricing Plan at Netflix

The cheapest plan for Netflix is the $4.99 with 1 movie out at a time, and a total of 2 movies per month. For the person who only watches a couple of rental DVDs per month, or who wants to support their local movie rental store and but have access to a wider selection occasionally, I can see this plan working. Otherwise, I don't see why people would choose this plan, when you can get unlimited rentals for a few dollars more a month.

The $7.99 Streaming Only Netflix Plan

The stream-only plan is only $3 more a month, and you get unlimited selections sent directly to your television screen. If you have the electronic set-up, streaming movies through Netflix is the way of the future.

All you need is an XBox or Playstation console, or a DVD or Blu Ray unit, and you'll be able to get streaming videos directly to your tv. You can also stream videos to your desktop pc, laptop computer, or iPad. Customers must set the electronics up themselves or, more likely, hire a specialist to set up their video streaming option. Once that's hooked up, you won't even have to pick up and drop off Netflix DVDs through the snail mail.

The $20.99 Unlimited Rentals - Netflix Plans

I still enjoy getting my Netflix videos through the mail, though. For $20 a month, I can actually look forward to the daily mail box visit, since most mail these days tends to be bills and junk. Of the traditional unlimited rental Netflix plans, my favorite Netflix price is the $20.99 for 3 videos out at a time.

That's because this sets up nicely with the pace of the postal service. When you time it right, you can have a new DVD or Blu-ray to watch every night, while having that 2-day turnaround on mailing and receiving. Sure, I have weeks that I'm busy and might not watch but a couple of discs, and I might have nights that I want to watch 2 discs at a time, but the 3-rental plan is the right combination of affordable and convenient, even after the new Netflix price changes.

Netflix Prices - Complete Blu-ray Price List

I don't want to forget the Netflix Blu-ray rental prices, for their devoted Blu-ray customers.

1 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $11.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
2 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $17.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
3 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $23.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
4 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $32.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
5 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $40.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
6 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $48.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
7 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $56.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
8 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $64.99 a month – Unlimited Rentals
1 Blu Ray at-a-Time – $5.99 a month – Limit 2 Rentals per Month
Watch Instantly Unlimited – $7.99 a month – No Blu Ray Discs
