Good Movies to Watch When You're High
Being high is one of the best ways to get the most out of a movie, allowing you to become much more deeply engrossed in the plot, as well as pick up on some nuances that you may not have noticed before. Some movies, however, are much more suitable for viewing while intoxicated than others. To help isolate the gems from an ever-growing pool of movies, the following is a list of good movies to watch high.
If you're looking for a very nonlinear, slightly creepy movie with subplot relating to time-travel, Donnie Darko is a thrilling adventure in those respects. To be a bit more specific, the movie is about the adventure of a teenage boy, Donnie Darko, as he comes face-to-face with a seemingly malevolent hallucination (in the form of an anthropomorphic bunny rabbit). Although this movie is one of my favorites, it may take multiple viewings to fully understand the complex plot.
As you probably already know, the main area where being under the influence makes all the difference is humor, and likewise, some of the best movies to watch while high are comedies. One movie that many recognize as one of the greatest is the classic Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke. Revolving around the misadventures of the hilarious pot-smoking duo, Up In Smoke is an absolute classic, and certainly one of the best movies to watch high.
Although there haven't been very many stoner comedies in the past few years, a movie that stands out is Pineapple Express, in which two laid-back potheads accidentally witness a murder, and as a result, end up running for their lives. It is one of the most recent stoner comedies, having been released in 2008, and is very highly recommended by most cannabis enthusiasts.
Lastly, I feel as though this list would be meaningless if I wasn't to include the classic Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. Based on the book of the same name, the movie follows the trouble seeking journalist Hunter S. Thompson and his "attorney" as they travel to Las Vegas for an assignment. The journey becomes increasingly bizarre and unpredictable as Thompson's drug intake increases, leading to a chaotic fog of intoxication, where nothing really makes much sense.
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas is the perfect visual and philosophical representation of the American dream that was all but uncommon in the 1960s and 70s, and remains number one on my list of good movies to watch high.
